The Big Race: Mercedes-Benz Showdown With Jerry Rice, Mike and Mike

A Tortoise, A Hare And A Mercedes-Benz

No it’s not a joke; it’s the Mercedes-Benz commercial for Super Bowl 2015. Following a one-year hiatus, Mercedes is back among the Super Bowl advertisers.

For this year’s campaign, the German car manufacturer has opted for a more football-related Super Bowl spot. And everyone is talking about “The Big Race” between the two iconic characters from the fable, the Tortoise and the Hare.

NFL Hall-of-Famer Jerry Rice is hosting the debate with a variety of guests on his new show, “Showdown with Jerry Rice.” He has invited various guests to debate who will win “The Big Race.” In this episode, the 5-time Super Bowl champion faces off against Andrew Hunter, an 8-year-old pet rabbit owner.

Mercedes is inviting viewers to weigh in with their opinions by tweeting whether they are #TeamTortoise or #TeamHare - and entering for a chance to win a Big Race viewing party.

Despite all the buzz, the teasers don’t give away anything. We still have no indication of which Mercedes vehicle will be advertised during “The Big Race” of Super Bowl 2015. The official Super Bowl commercial itself will be 60-seconds long and will air during the fourth quarter of the game. Mercedes-Benz says it will give a “modern twist” to the classic La Fontaine’s Fable.

Although Mr. Slaven declined to divulge specifics about the commercial, he did reveal that a Mercedes model will play a key role in who wins “The Big Race” and that a hero appears at the end of the race. A new Tortoise Mercedes?
