After the Super Bowl - Get off your butt and Get Outdoors! (At least that’s what Marmot recommends…)
Outdoor clothing label, Marmot, is making their Super Bowl commercial debut in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Big Game. They’ve purchased up a 30-second time slot to send us a message that being outside is fun. (Especially if you’re joined by a friendly squirrel and your favorite Marmot jacket!)

Whether you’re planning a weekend camping trip featuring a lot of booze and a few rounds of Kumbaya by the campfire or you’re simply headed out for a hike, make friends with a marmot.
Using the Super Bowl To Boost Brand Awareness
Marmot’s VP of Marketing, Tom Fritz, stated that the Marmot Super Bowl 50 commercial was created to showcase “the simple joys and benefits of just being outside.” The company wants to encourage Americans to “experience the great outdoors.” Given that Marmot’s goal is to both “reach new shoppers and reintroduce the brand to existing customers,” where better place to advertise than during America’s biggest sporting event of the year? Naturally!
According to The Wall Street Journal, Marmot spent more on their 30-second Super Bowl commercial than on all their media marketing in 2014. With 30-second slots going for $5 million during CBS’s Super Bowl broadcast, we’re sure the company has something big planned.
Any other details about the ad?
Though we don’t know exactly when we’ll meet the marmot during the game, we have some insight as to what the ad might look like. According to AdAge, the Marmot Super Bowl 50 commercial, which was created by ad agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners, will showcase a friendly squirrel “helping a man fall in love with the outdoors.”
So why a large squirrel as a mascot?
Mark Martin, president of Marmot, told The Wall Street Journal, that the “marmot is a perfect guide to the outdoors because it loves the outside, [and] it’s cute and cuddly.” In an attempt to get us even more antsy (pun intended) for what they have in store, the company released three teasers to give us a taste of what to expect come Game Day. Post-game, they will also release a 60-second extended version of their Super Bowl 50 ad - yippee!
