This just in! Actor Scott Baio will star in the Avocados From Mexico Super Bowl 50 commercial and we might also get a surprise appearance from our favorite furry little red friend, Elmo!
What do avocados, a “Happy Days” actor and Sesame Street have to do with the Super Bowl? Apparently, just about everything. Avocado lovers are in for some big news in light of the Big Game - and it’s about more than just avocados.
You probably recognize Scott Baio as Chachi Arcola from Happy Days, which aired from 1977 to 1984. If not, maybe you’ve seen him on Nickelodeon’s See Dad Run.
For his newest starring roll, Baio has chosen to show up in a Super Bowl ad - tooting the benefits of our favorite green fruit in the Avocados From Mexico Super Bowl 50 ad.

Will Sesame Street Also Join The Big Game Party?
Other than the fact that Scott Baio is playing a big part of the ad, Avocados from Mexico has yet to release details about their Super Bowl plans. If we had to guess, however, we’d bet that the company’s new partners, Sesame Street, won’t want to be left out of the Game Day festivities.
Avocados From Mexico recently joined forces with Sesame Street in order to “educate families on the value of avocados,” and the “importance of a well-balanced diet.” Rumor has it, they may just tap Elmo to drive the message home in their 30-second Super Bowl spot.
According to the company’s president, Alvaro Luque, “there’s not a wasted second” in this year’s ad which will feature “joke after joke after joke.” Is Elmo going to just reach right out of our screen for a good old tickle fest?
Who Else Might Show Up For Some Guac?
In addition to their Sesame Street partnership, Avocados from Mexico also recently teamed up with PBS’s chef Pati Jinich of “Pati’s Mexican Table” to help spread the word about healthy eating and to teach kids about the wide range of health benefits that come with avocados. You can take a look at one of these “AvoWellness” clips starring Jinich alongside the familiar faces of Sesame Street:
The news of Elmo joining Baio during CBS’s Super Bowl 50 broadcast on February 7, 2016, along with these other 2016 Super Bowl advertisers has not yet been confirmed, but we’re looking forward to an official announcement. And we can’t help but wonder if it’ll look anything like Avocados From Mexico’s Super Bowl XLIX ad. Called “First Draft Ever,” it featured Jerry Rice and Doug Floutie.
Could it be that the key players at Avocados From Mexico are doing everything they can to make sure their brain isn’t taken too seriously? Or are they just teasing us with the Baio-Elmo Super Bowl 50 duo news? Guess we’ll just have to wait and find out!
In the meantime, we’ll resort to learning a thing or two about avocados with Chef Pati ourselves. Or….since we might not be able to sit through another health clip, we’ll pass the time with this ultimate Super Bowl commercials test. (You should, too!)
