The Only 7 Super Bowl Commercials That Made Us Laugh Out-loud in 2015

The Funniest Super Bowl Ads of 2015

Last year’s Super Bowl wasn’t a stellar year in comedy. There were few ads that made us giggle and none that made us buckle over with a big ol’ belly laugh. We’re hoping that in honor of Super Bowl 50, advertisers step it up in 2016 with more laughs and fewer tears.

Super Bowl 2015 will be remembered as the year of melancholy, with an onslaught of depressing commercials at the outset of the game. But there were a few advertisers who came through with some solid humorous ads (thank you!). If you managed to see them through your cloud of tears, you might have chuckled along or at least cracked a smile at the witty lines in these commercials:

7. Wix

For their first ever Super Bowl commercial, do-it-yourself web designers, Wix.com ran a clever integrated campaign. They took five of the NFL’s greatest players and gave them brand new (and rather unexpected) careers. Hotshot Terrell Owens started baking in his new Humble Pie business. Brett Favre can be found slicing deli meats at “Favre and Carve” and Franco Harris is, of all things, a wedding planner. The ad itself was clever but it was even funnier to watch the athletes banter on social media. The real players interacted and poked fun at each other’s entrepreneurial attempts. We are hoping that Wix will be back in Super Bowl 2016 with another great ad!

6. Doritos

Doritos ran their Crash the Super Bowl contest for the 9th year in a row, and as usual, they did not disappoint. They ran two fan-made Super Bowl commercials last year, but “Middle Seat” by director Scott Zabielski was far funnier. We have a weakness for these simple, clever ads that don’t cost millions to produce.

5. Fiat

While Fiat’s commercial didn’t have us rolling off the couch in a fit of laughter, it was cute enough to make us chuckle. Viagra jokes are funny and we appreciate that Fiat showed us the after-effect of the little blue pill on a Fiat and not on that old Italian couple. That really wouldn’t have been funny.

4. Discover

While Discover’s commercial was pretty predictable, we still snickered a bit. There’s just something kinda funny about screaming goats. Although if you consider the fact that Discover card had 29 years to plan this ad, we think they could have come up with something even more hilarious.

3. Nationwide

Nationwide’s “Invisible Mindy” commercial was fantastic. Even before it aired, the ad had generated a great deal of interest on social media. Expectations were high, and they did not disappoint. In fact, this creative, fun spot might even have snagged first place - but we’re still pissed at Nationwide for their buzz kill ad. So we’ve demoted them to third place.

2. Loctite

Loctite Glue was a newcomer to the world of Super Bowl advertising last year, but we think they managed to bring back the fanny pack! Watching these people dance was hysterical. Add that to the very hilarity of the premise that a super glue company was advertising in the Super Bowl and you had the makings of a winning spot. The ad even made Adweek’s top five spots of the game, and VH1 called it “the greatest” of 2015.

1. Snickers

Hats off to Snickers for keeping an old campaign fresh, funny and full of surprises. This was one of the few Super Bowl ads last year that we wanted to watch over and over again. The tagline “You’re not you when you’re hungry” works for them and why mess with a good thing? We didn’t think Snickers could possibly beat the Betty White clip from 2010, but they pulled it off. Can’t wait to see their 2016 Super Bowl commercial!
