After two years in the woods, Taco Bell returns to the playing field with a 30-second ad spot secured for the first quarter of Super Bowl 50.
We… news… on the company’s latest….featuring a new…at the Golden Anniversary…
Comprendo? We didn’t think so. And after downing some ShockTop and devouring our customized Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch taco, trying to decipher ambiguous puzzles is way over our heads. But in an attempt to keep the crowd antsy with anticipation, Taco Bell has just made a teaser announcement that they are officially back for Super Bowl 50. This is their first appearance in the Big Game since 2013, and they’ve secured a 30-second spot to kick-off just in time for the first quarter.
It’s supposedly the company’s “biggest launch to date” and will feature a new product that is joining the chain’s menu. Chief Concept and Brand Officer, Chris Brandt, told AdAge that the motive behind their mysterious teaser is to have the excitement build as they prepare to make “one of the most exciting announcements from the Taco Bell brand to date.” (Gotta say, that does sound pretty enticing!)

There are not a lot of details out about the soon-to-be featured product or the commercial, but we do know that the ad will be created by Super Bowl pros, Deutsch LA. According to AdWeek, the “new menu item is described as a ‘food innovation’ and seems to be a combination of (unknown) food items,” and might be “available to certain fans before the game.”
Let’s just hope that whatever they’re serving up is more appetizing than their 2013 ad spot that featured a group of old people on a night out in town.

But what will the delicious subsidiary branch of Yum! Brands, Inc. really be promoting? And could the groundbreaking news also be accompanied by their old-school chihuahua figure?
Looks like they’ll have us guessing til just after the kickoff at Levi’s stadium on February 7th at 6:30 p.m. ET.
