Hollywood actor Christopher Walken pitches Kia Optima with beige and colorful sock puppets
And he sure has pizzazz…
Are you content to blend in? Or do you go through life always expecting more? If you’re anything but the latter, then we’re sorry to break the news but you’re a beige sock kind of person. At least, that’s what Christopher Walken tells a very beige and boring man in his pitch for the 2017 Kia Optima sedan.
The company released an extended version of the Kia Super Bowl 50 commercial. It’s called “Walken Closet” and boy does it make us want to run out and buy new socks. (That’s the point, right?)

Since colorful socks are just cooler…
If you’re looking for some socks to wear as you get ready for work, make sure to consult with Christopher Walken. (Unless you want to be scrutinized and berated for wearing beige.) In the 2016 Kia Super Bowl commercial, we meet Walken sitting in a “Walken Closet” and trying to convince a boring man named Richard to add some ‘pizzazz’ to his life. With a colorful sock in his right hand and a beige one on his left, Walked asks, “Do you want to be devoured?” He offers a powerful speech about how beige-socked people are boring and then compares the new Kia Optima to ‘the world’s most exciting pair of socks.’” (Because naturally, if you wear colorful socks, then you must be really exciting.)

From Socks to the Kia Optima
The Kia Super Bowl 50 commercial is set to air in the third quarter of CBS’s broadcast of Super Bowl 50 on February 7th, 2016 alongside these other 2016 Super Bowl advertisers. The 60-second ad is meant to introduce the company’s Optima car model in a way that will really reach its consumers - by getting personal with and hitting the spots that people care about the most (like standing out and having the next best thing).
According to AdAge, COO and Executive VP of Kia Motors America, Michael Sprague said that the ad is meant to show how the “all-new Optima delivers a level of refinement and sophistication,” and they wanted to use Christopher Walken to steer their message home.
Still haven’t managed to break out of your beige life and get hyped for the game?
Well, then maybe you should consider heading to Levi’s Stadium driving an all new Kia Optima. Or… if you’re really just that lazy and not up for a road trip, then maybe this Super Bowl commercial quiz will get you to wake up and wear some colorful socks!
