Congrats to Snickers, Winner of The 1st Super Clio Award

This year was the inaugural year of the “Super Clio” award. The first-of-its-kind Clio award is part of a new competition in the advertising industry called “The Creative Bowl.” The goal is to honor the best Super Bowl commercial of the year.

Who won the first Super Clio?

Snickers and its Brady Bunch-themed commercial featuring Danny Trejo as Marcia Brady and a surprise cameo by Steve Buscemi as Jan Brady.

The spot, created by BBDO New York, continues with Snickers’ classic “you’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign, launched in 2010. BBDO is the second largest global advertising agency network, with headquarters in New York and offices in 81 countries.

The panel of judges selected Snickers’ commercial for its “originality, innovation and stand-out celebrity cameos.” Snickers published the full 30-second Super Bowl ad on Youtube on Jan. 29, and the video has already garnered more than 10 million views.

The spot was selected out of four finalists, including:

Loctite’s “Positive Feelings” by Fallon, Minneapolis

Always’ “#LikeAGirl” by Leo Burnett, Chicago

NoMore.org official NFL Super Bowl ad by Grey, N.Y.

“The four finalists were great Super Bowl spots that resonated with all of the judges,” said Rob Reilly Global Creative Chairman of McCann Worldgroup. About Snickers, the first Super Clio winner, Reilly stated, “It’s really difficult to create a version of the same campaign every year and to keep it fresh. While you can say you’ve seen a similar version of the Snickers creative before, we should also applaud the fact that they found a way to keep it fresh and inventive.”

The Clio Creative Bowl judge panel was comprised of top U.S. creative minds, Ted Royer, chief creative officer, Droga5; Gerry Graf, founder, chief creative officer, Barton F. Graf 9000; Glenn Cole, founder, chief creative officer, 72andSunny; Colleen DeCourcy, global executive creative director, Wieden + Kennedy; David Lubars, worldwide chief creative officer, BBDO; Susan Credle, U.S. chief creative officer, Leo Burnett; Steve Simpson, North American chief creative officer, Ogilvy & Mather; Rob Schwartz, New York CEO, TBWA\Chiat\Day; and Tim Nudd, creative editor, Adweek.

The Super Clio trophy was presented to both BBDO and Snickers on Feb. 2.
