What’s it like to be 1 in 15,000?
Ask Mike Brown, the owner of Death Wish Coffee Company, a small 11-person operation based in Saratoga Springs, NY. Intuit has just announced that Death Wish is the official grand prize winner in the 2nd edition of their “Small Business, Big Game” contest.
And what’s the Grand Prize?
30-seconds of air time in the 2016 Super Bowl! That’s right, the 2016 Intuit Super Bowl commercial will not be about Intuit and what they do. Instead, it will be all about Death Wish Coffee. Don’t believe us?
You can watch the commercial here! (It’s a great one!)
Whats’ the “Small Business Big Game” Contest?
The “Small Business Big Game” contest started way back in the spring of last year. Intuit, who prides itself on offering services and products that help small businesses, invited business owners from across the country to enter the contest. Contestants had to create a profile, gather votes and complete a series of activities. The pool of 15,000 applicants was first narrowed down to 10 and then to 3. In the end, Death Wish was declared the victor!
In addition to paying for the 30-seconds of Super Bowl air time, Intuit also covers the cost of producing the TV commercial. Not a bad deal! You can watch out for the Death Wish Coffee commercial during the third quarter of the Super Bowl on February 7th.
Meet the Winner
Death Wish Coffee began brewing back in 2012. Owner Mike Brown wanted to create the strongest coffee in the world. He blended and brewed until he came up with just the right recipe. Today, Death Wish sells an impressive 1000 pounds of coffee each day. (We expect that number will increase drastically come February 8th.)
Along with their jolting brew of super-strong coffee, Death Wish comes in an iconic package. You can’t miss their black bag with its skull and bones label. Regarding his upcoming Super Bowl slot, Brown said, “Winning this commercial is beyond our wildest dreams, and we could not be more grateful for this opportunity or eager to maximize it.”
Who were the Runners-Up?
The two other semi-finalists were Hubbies Shorts, a San Francisco based clothing company and Vidler’s 5 & 10, a good old fashioned 5 and dime store in East Aurora New York. While neither of them will get to air a Super Bowl commercial, they will get to take home a fat check for $25,000 check and local media and advertising worth about $15,000.
