Ditch Your Provider, Switch To T-Mobile: Drake Stars In The “Un-Carrier’s” Super Bowl 50 Ad

And he wants us to call him on his cell phone…with T-Mobile

Now THAT’s a genius idea!

Or so says Drake as he’s interrupted in the middle of his “Hotline Bling” music video in T-Mobile’s 30-second ad. That’s right, the un-carrier has released the first of the two T-Mobile 2016 Super Bowl commercials and we get to see Drake change up his lyrics a bit in honor of the Big Game.

Watch their first ad and see for yourself:

T-Mobile is joining a long list of other 2016 Super Bowl advertisers who dished out $5 million for 30-seconds of air time during the CBS broadcast of the Big Game. Their commercial is designed to poke fun at the other phone companies for the “restrictive plans and outlandish rules” they impose on consumers. The un-carrier aims to drive home the message that “wireless carriers ruin everything” and they use Drake as a pawn to drive this message home.

In the ad, Drake is rehearsing for his “Hotline Bling” music video, until he’s interrupted by three people (who are playing the role of phone carriers), to show how wireless carriers are so bad that they even managed to ruin his top hit. Surprisingly, we see a relaxed Drake approving of all the changes…

Why Drake?

No strangers to the Super Bowl ad game, T-Mobile has previously used other celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Tim Tebow, Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman to reach new consumers (and their pockets.) And with the Super Bowl being the nation’s most talked about sporting event, T-Mobile wanted to work with someone “who can create a conversation.” Given the buzz that’s already brewing about Drake on social media, it looks like the company chose just the right candidate to take on the role.

What’s next?

T-Mobile still hasn’t released their second spot, but we only hope that it’ll be as good as the Super Bowl teaser they put out last week. (We are getting really excited to see a magenta themed commercial!)

Here’s their awesome teaser:
