Reigning champs, the Seattle Seahawks, gave a good fight on Sunday night, with some textbooks moves from Marshawn Lynch and some impressive receptions from Chris Matthews, but back to back wins just wasn’t in the cards for the Hawks. The Patriots proved a worthy rival and were able to pull out a win: 28-24
In one of the most exciting Super Bowl battles of all time, there was not a second of downtime to debate deflated balls and there was no need for the media to make up scandals to have something to talk about. The excitement of the game was enough.
It was a one-man show and that man is Tom Brady. He engineered two drives in the fourth quarter and threw FOUR touchdown passes including a clutch one to Julian Edelman with 2:02 left in the game. This brought the Pats into the lead, bringing them back from a 10-point deficit earlier in the game. But the 4th quarter excitement didn’t end there. After a spectacular catch by Jermaine Kearse, a bad decision that Pete Carroll will have to live with for the rest of his life cost Seattle the game. Pats Rookie Malcolm Butler snagged an interception (first in his career!) on the goal line in what should have been an easy touchdown for Seattle.
Meanwhile, Brady will soon run out of fingers for all those Super Bowl rings. (This makes four, if you’ve lost count.) Brady’s win today ties him for the most Super Bowl championships. Only Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana can claim the same. He also picked up his 3rd Super Bowl MVP award.
