The Girl On Fire And Her Ill-Fated Left Shark: The Halftime Show In Tweets and Memes

Did the Super Bowl halftime show star Katy Perry or Katniss Everdeen? She entered as The Girl On Fire and was soon joined by her beloved Cinna, I mean Lenny Kravitz.

Or maybe that costume wasn’t inspired by Hunger Games but rather by Bam Bam Bigelow?

Regardless of who that was on center stage, the halftime show dazzled. And now that the stardust has settled, social media is weighing in on the highlights of those 15-fiery minutes filled with glitter, costume changes and well - that awkward shark that we just can’t stop talking about.

In case you missed the halftime show, here’s a recap in memes in tweets.

(Because you can always count on Twitter to not miss a beat, even when the dancers themselves have lost their rhythm.)

It all began when Katy strode into the stadium with a Roar, perched atop a futuristic larger-than-life tiger:

Lenny Kravitz joined Katy for “I Kissed A Girl,” and some bumping and grinding, despite the fact the she’s 20 years his junior. Kravitz’s daughter responded in jest with this:

And then there was the surprise performance by Missy Elliot which many people felt stole the show. Just look at this taste of the tweeting:

Let’s Not Forget The Famous Left Shark

But despite all that buzz about Missy, about Katy’s many costume changes (there were four) and the abundance of fire on stage, as far as social media land is concerned, the real story of the halftime show was the plush left shark and his now-famous lack of rhythm. The jokes go on…and on, and for some reason they haven’t gotten old yet This Super Bowl halftime show may forever be remembered as the night of #LeftShark.

But let’s give the poor shark a break. It can’t be easy to dance when wearing a giant, fluffy shark suit and knowing that 120 million people are watching.

“The More You Know” Finale

The halftime show ended with Katy’s pyrotechnic flight, featuring the singer in a sparkling, floor length dress, soaring above the stadium on a shooting star (that looked suspiciously like NBC’s “The More You Know” star).

Entertained we were, and after all that’s the point. Super Bowl 2015’s halftime show did not disappoint. But remember, above all else, the Super Bowl is about football and the real star of Sunday night was not Katy, but rather Super Bowl MVP, Tom Brady:
