Audi, a German car brand owned by Volkswagen, is no stranger to the Super Bowl. They have aired 8 previous Super Bowl commercials and are back again in honor of Super Bowl LI. Here’s a look back at how Audi has entertained us on Game Day over the past decade.
Super Bowl XLVIII (2016) -“The Commander”
Audi bought a 60-second ad last year in honor of Super Bowl 50. The Audi 2016 Super Bowl commercial was called “The Commander” and it was undoubtedly one of the best Super Bowl commercials of the year. The commercial weaved a story, introducing us to a former astronaut who has lost interest in life. That is until his son lets him go for a drive in the new (and powerful) Audi R8. The elderly man is transported in an instant back to the best days of his life. This ad was poignant, powerful and inspiring. What’s more, it paid tribute to David Bowie with his beautiful “Starman” as the soundtrack behind the spot.

Super Bowl XLVIII (2014) -“Doberhuahua”
Audi’s last Super Bowl commercial was called “Doberhauhua,” and was meant to show consumers that their cars are “designed without compromise.” Just how did the ad seek to achieve this end? By molding a Doberman and a Chihauhau together as one breed and showing the, well, interesting results…
Super Bowl XLVII (2013) -“Prom”
Audi’s 2013 Super Bowl tells the story of how one high school kid’s confidence is so boosted just from driving their car that he even works up the nerve to make a move on the prom queen!
Super Bowl XLVI (2012) - “Vampire Party”
If you’re looking to make a grand entrance to a party, then Audi’s the name of the game. This ad shows a hunk driving the German vehicle to a Vampire Party in a secluded area, when they all blow up because of the car’s bright headlights.
Super Bowl XLV (2011) - “Release the Hounds”
In this Audi Super Bowl commercial, the car manufacturer tells consumers that, with an Audi, they can “escape the confines of old luxury” and maybe even make a powerful escape from jail.
Super Bowl XLIV (2010) - “Green Police”
Did Audi just say “eco-friendly?” This ad shows how Audi gets personal with consumers - and the environment - by promoting awareness for the environment.
Super Bowl XLIII (2009) - “The Chase”
Scandalous is the name of the game when it comes to this Audi Super Bowl commercial. This ad shows a man on the run…and a very supercharged Audi A6 that shows up just in time.
