Previous Mercedes-Benz Campaigns

This year marks the fourth time that Mercedes-Benz will run a Super Bowl ad. With intermittent appearances at the Big Game, it seems they only use the world’s biggest advertising platform to celebrate momentous occasions.

Two years ago, in their 2015 Mercedes Super Bowl commercial, they took a new twist on the classic car ad. They used the event to reenact the most famous of races between The Tortoise and The Hare. Using the hashtag #TheBigRace, Mercedes invited viewers to weigh-in on who they thought should win the race.

To build up the excitement before releasing the complete commercial, Mercedes got help from ESPN’s Mike and Mike as well as from NFL hall-of-famer Jerry Rice, featuring them in various teasers. The race itself, featuring an animated tortoise, a cocky-as-ever hare and a Mercedes AMG GT sports car, was first shown on the Ellen Degeneres show.

2013 Mercedes Super Bowl XLVII Commercial

In 2013, for Super Bowl XLVII, Mercedes introduced the CLA as a new Mercedes that anyone can afford, without having to sell their soul. The ad shows a regular guy contemplating a deal with the devil, played by Willem Dafoe. Dafoe tempts the young man with a new Mercedes AND everything that comes with it, from Kate Upton as a girlfriend to a dance party with Usher. Wonder what he decides? Check out the video.

2011 Mercedes Super Bowl XLV Commercial

In 2011, Mercedes used the Super Bowl XLV spotlight to introduce a new line of vehicles in honor of the company’s 125th birthday.

The ad featured Mercedes cars of all shapes and sizes coming to life and driving on their own to a midnight gathering. When Puff Daddy wakes up in a panic to find his car gone, he wanders in a bathrobe amidst hundreds of cars looking for his missing ride.
