Super Bowl LI marks the third time Lexus has advertised during the Biggest Game of the NFL. Their first ever Super Bowl commercial, “Unleash the Beast,” aired in 2012 with a 30-second slot that featured the new Lexus GS.

In 2015, Lexus returned to the Super Bowl to unveil the new Lexus NX Crossover. This time, the automaker wanted to make the car the hero of its ad. Speaking to Variety, Walton Isaacson’s founding partner Aaron Walton said: “We wanted to make sure that the focus was really around the performance of the car, the energy of the car, and we didn’t want to do anything that was going to take away from that.”
