Intuit Commercial 2016

Ever a supporter of the little guy, Intuit used their 30-second ad slot to offer one small business the chance of a lifetime - an advertisement in Super Bowl 50. Inspired by the success of the Doritos’ Crash the Super Bowl contest, Intuit created their own competition to help turn a nobody into a great success.

A staggering 15,000 small businesses entered the contest, which was kicked off in the spring of 2015. On November 3, Intuit announced the three finalists of their “Small Business Big Game.” They included Hubbies Shorts, Death Wish Coffee Company and Vidler’s 5 & 10 and each of them were hoping to win 30-seconds of fame on February 7th.

And the Winner is…

On January 28th, Death Wish Coffee was officially declared the Intuit contest winter! And given just how entertaining their ad was, we’re not surprised they snagged the Big Win! Plus, “the strongest coffee in the world” was just what we needed to help our post-Super Bowl hangover!

Meet the 2 Runners-Up:

Don’t shed too many tears for the two finalists who didn’t make the final cut; they each got to take home a $25,000 check, plus local media and advertising valued at up to $15,000.

San Francisco-based, American-made Chubbies Shorts:

Vidler’s 5 & 10, a quintessentially American five-and-dime store, sells a whopping 75,000 products. Still going strong after 83 years, it’s both an homage to a bygone era and a tourist attraction that draws in thousands of visitors each year. If you’re near East Aurora NY, be sure to stop in! (We bet they have some great decorations for your Super Bowl party.)

Why Focus on Small Businesses?

Intuit prides itself on providing services to small businesses. They create tax preparation software like TurboTax and financial software such as Quicken and Quickbooks, all of which are indispensable to countless SMBs. Based in Mountain View, California, it’s fitting that they’ll be advertising at the Big Game this year, when it’s being played in their backyard.

Intuit has only advertised in one previous Super Bowl. In their first edition of the “Small Business, Big Game” competition, toy manufacturer GoldieBlox took home the grand prize:
