Previous Esurance Campaigns

This will be the third year in a row that Esurance advertises in the Super Bowl.

A look back at Esurance in Super Bowl XLIX

Last year, Esurance made great use of their two Big Game spots, using Big Name celebrities Lindsay Lohan and Bryan Cranston to help make sure that America took notice.

We loved the fact that child-star-gone-bad, Lindsay Lohan, starred in this Esurance 2015 Super Bowl commercial, which aired during the first quarter.

Then, in the second quarter, when we least expected it, Esurance pulled the dagger with another #SORTA brilliant cast: Breaking Bad’s Walter White, as a Sorta Pharmacist!

What did Esurance do in Super Bowl 2014?

In the 2014 Super Bowl, while few brands scored high on the social media battle, Esurance managed to break through by giving a brilliant twist to one of the oldest and most unoriginal marketing gimmicks: a sweepstakes. They made a bold move and bought the first POST-Super Bowl Ad. You are probably wondering why. The answer is simple, it saved the insurance company $1.5 MILION!

But they weren’t playing on the cheap. In the commercial that aired immediately after the game, The Office star John Krasinski explained that the money saved was up for grabs. There would be one lucky winner among the viewers who tweeted the hashtag #EsuranceSave30.

According to AdAge, 2.39 million people entered the contest, including 200,000 entries within minutes after the spot aired. While the hashtag was trending on Twitter, the company’s Twitter account went from 8,900 to 155,000 followers.

The lucky winner of the sweepstakes was eventually revealed on the Jimmy Kimmel show by the star of the commercial, John Krasinski.
