The rainbow colored candy announces that the Skittles Super Bowl 50 commercial will star Aerosmith frontman, Steven Tyler
What do you get when you put rainbow colored candy in the same room with an Aerosmith performer? A colorful experience including a touch of Aerosmith sass. If you haven’t heard the news, Skittles is coming back for their sophomore appearance in the Super Bowl ad game. What’s even sweeter is that they’ve brought on rock rager, Steven Tyler to star in their spot!
There are few details as to what the Skittles Super Bowl 2016 ad has in store. What we know is that Skittles is working with ad agency DDB Chicago, and that they just released a 2-second GIF showing Tyler rocking out on his brand-new, Skittles-covered microphone and stand. Apparently, Tyler received the mic as a thank you gift for appearing in the candy company’s Big Game ad. (If only we knew where we could get one just like it for our at-home karaoke set!)

Tyler’s spotlight appearance will mark the first time Skittles has ever used a celebrity to help flaunt their “Taste the Rainbow” campaign. Unless, of course you count the free press that the candy company received when Seattle Seahawks’ running back Marshawn Lynch’s was caught chowing down on the candies during Super Bowl XLIX:
The Skittles Super Bowl 50 ad featuring a young-at-heart Steven Tyler comes just in time for the rock star’s new single. Unlikely a coincidence! We think the Super Bowl announcement will help him draw fans to his solo project, called “Red White and You.”
What Has Skittles Done in Previous Super Bowl Ads?
Skittles, who is owned by Wrigley’s, had its debut appearance in Super Bowl XLIX with an ad that took place in a secluded desert town and encouraged viewers to “Settle It” with an arm wrestle if they caught themselves fighting over some lemon-flavored Skittles.
Here’s a look into 2015 Skittles’ Super Bowl XLIX “Settle It” ad:
According to Skittles’ Senior Marketing Director Matt Montei, last year’s ad did not include a celebrity appearance, as to not “pigeon-hole” viewers. But it seems that the candy company has had a change of heart. Who knows, maybe this year’s spot will include surprise performances from other familiar faces!
In the meantime…if you’re looking for the ultimate Super Bowl gadget to get into the Game Day spirit, make sure to get your very own custom-made Skittles karaoke set and rock out with Steven Tyler. Until then, we’ll just have to Dream On and see what other surprises the rainbow colored candy has in store for the Big Game.
