Top 5 Finger-Licking Chicken Wings Recipes

If you think Super Bowl Sunday is only about football and the love for this sport, you got it wrong! As America’s second largest food consumption day of the year – Thanksgiving holds its pole position – the amount of food consumed on game day is embarrassing. Chicken wings are among America’s all-time favorite dishes come game day. Last year, according to the National Chicken Council, 1.25 billion wings were consumed over Super Bowl weekend, the equivalent of 312.5 million chickens!

Because we know how much you all love chicken wings, we’ve compiled our top 5 recipes to choose from for your Super Bowl Party!

 

#5 BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 cup oyster sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup gin
  • 2 dashes liquid smoke flavoring
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 pounds chicken wings, separated at joints, tips discarded
  • 1/4 cup honey

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, gin, liquid smoke, and sugar.
  2. Place the chicken wings in the bowl, cover, and marinate in the refrigerator 8 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the grill for low heat.
  4. Lightly oil the grill grate.
  5. Arrange chicken on the grill, and discard the marinade.
  6. Grill the chicken wings on one side for 20 minutes, then turn and brush with honey.
  7. Continue grilling 25 minutes, or until juices run clear.

 

#4 Ginger & honey chicken wings

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 25 higher-welfare chicken wings
  • 5 spring onions, finely sliced
  • 5 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 red chilli, sliced
  • 1-2 cm piece of ginger, grated
  • 4-5 sprigs of thyme, leaves picked

Directions

  1. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl to make a sticky sauce.
  2. Place the chicken wings in a single layer in a wide, shallow, nonreactive dish.
  3. Pour the marinade over the chicken, cover with cling film and place in the fridge to marinate for 24 hours.
  4. Heat your barbecue or griddle pan until hot. Cook the wings for 15–20 minutes, turning often, until dark and the juices run clear when the chicken is pierced with a skewer.
  5. If cooking on a griddle, finish the wings in the oven at 180C/gas 4 for 10–15 minutes to ensure they’re cooked through.

#3 Baked buffalo chicken wings

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp celery salt
  • 4 tbsp pepper sauce (we used Frank’s hot sauce)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 1½ kg chicken wings, halved at the joint

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the garlic, olive oil, cider vinegar, paprika, Worcestershire sauce, celery salt, hot sauce, honey and a couple of cracks of black pepper.
  2. Add the chicken wings and toss around to make sure they’re fully covered in the marinade. If you have time, leave the wings to marinate for a couple of hrs in the fridge or ideally overnight.
  3. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4.
  4. Drain and reserve the marinade, then spread the wings out on a very large baking tray.
  5. Bake for 30 mins, then pour off the excess oil, add the reserved marinade and toss well.
  6. Increase oven to 200C/180C fan/ gas 6.
  7. Return to the oven and cook for a further 30 mins, tossing a few times to coat in the glaze as they cook. They should be sticky and glazed with most of the marinade evaporated.
  8. Serve on a large platter alongside other party snacks.

#2 Caramelized Chicken Wings

Ingredients (4 servings)

 

  • 3 lbs chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 garlic clove, minced, to taste
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

Directions

 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Place chicken in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Mix the oil, soy sauce, ketchup, honey, garlic, salt and pepper and pour over the chicken.
  4. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for one hour or until sauce is caramelized.

#1 Crispy Fried Chicken Wings

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 4 pounds chicken wings, split and tips discarded
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup crushed saltine crackers
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 cups peanut oil for frying
  • salt to taste

Directions

  1. Beat the eggs and buttermilk together in a mixing bowl until smooth.
  2. Mix in the chicken wings, cover, and refrigerate 30 minutes.
  3. Combine the flour and crushed crackers with the pepper, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, and garlic powder in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  5. Remove the chicken wings from the buttermilk marinade, and discard the remaining marinade.
  6. Allow the excess buttermilk to drip from the wings, then press into the bread crumbs to coat.
  7. Cook in batches in the preheated deep-fryer until the breading is golden brown on the outside, and the chicken wings are no longer pink at the bone, about 10 minutes per batch.
  8. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate, and season to taste with salt before serving.
