We’ll drink to this news! Comedian T.J. Miller is starring in the 2016 Shock Top Super Bowl commercial!
Shock Top, who is advertising this year in the Super Bowl for the first time, has just released a teaser for their Super Bowl 50 ad! In starring rolls are comedian T.J. Miller and, unShockingly, the beer brand’s smart-talking, spiky-haired mascot.

You might know him as Erlich Bachman in the HBO series, Silicon Valley, or from one of his many other TV appearances, but if you’ve never heard of T.J. Miller – then you’re probably living under a rock. (Or on some secluded far away island that no one’s ever heard of.) At least that’s what he thinks!
Super Bowl rookies, Shock Top, released the 90-second teaser clip announcing Miller’s unfiltered appearance in their 30-second Super Bowl 50 commercial. And it’s apparently as bold as his mic-shattering drop at the end of the improvised announcement.
In the clip, Miller starts with a rant about who he is and how he’s going to appear in an “unfiltered” ad “for an unfiltered beer.” He warns viewers saying that they should prepare to “‘laugh out’….when his ‘draught’s out” — leaving a very confused Shock Top Wedgehead mascot questioning what he means. Yes – the Shock Top mascot speaks, and his voice is none other than comedian Martin Montana.
Miller assures us that Shock Top’s Super Bowl ad will be the “greatest Super Bowl commercial of all time.”
Here’s the teaser:
Jake Kirsch, Shock Top’s VP, explains that the brand has been struggling to “maintain growth” in the beverage market since “the majority of the people” haven’t even heard of this beer. Kirsch continues to explain that the Shock Top Super Bowl 2016 commercial is meant to “relaunch, reignite, [and] restage” the brand in the vastly growing market and make people more aware of its existence.
Live Life Unfiltered
The ad will play up the brand’s “Live Life Unfiltered” mantra, just another reason they’re using T.J. Miller to help them create a buzz around the beer! Maybe Miller will even get a mohawk just for the Big Game commercial? Looks like we’ll just have to wait and find out…
If you’re just as excited as we are for Shock Top’s breakout spot in the Big Game, what better time than now to drink one? (We’ve already stocked up on ours.) But if you’re trying to save the excitement in light of CBS’s broadcast of Super Bowl 50 on February 7, 2016 at Levi’s Stadium, then here’s a little 411 about all the 2016 Super Bowl Commercials.
