It was Carnival’s first time in the Super Bowl, but they generated a ton of hype on social media. In a video clip narrated by Cedric the Entertainer (from The Steve Harvey Show and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire), Carnival asked people to vote for their favorite ad.
The ad that won, called “Come Back to the Sea,” featured majestic images of the ocean and a powerful, alluring narration by JFK.
The ad did a good job of achieving what it set out to do – making viewers feel drawn and connected to the ocean. According to Arnold Donald, CEO of Carnival Corporation, the goal of the commercial was “to convince those who have never cruised to give us a chance to show them why over 10 million people a year sail on one of our nine brands and why so many of our guests cannot wait to sail with us again.”
Super Bowl ads experience
Carnival is going big for their first Super Bowl appearance! They’ve hired BBDO Atlanta, which was recently named Global Agency of the Year by Adweek Magazine, to develop their first-ever Super Bowl commercial. They’ve got Academy Award winner Wally Pfister on board to direct the 60 second spot. (That’s the same guy who directed Transcendence, Inception, Moneyball and The Dark Knight trilogy.)
