While most of the brands advertising in Super Bowl 50 have kept their plans under wraps, one company has let us in on their big move for the Big Game. Second time Super Bowl advertisers, Wix.com has announced that they are teaming up with DreamWorks animation in a 30-second commercial that will both build hype for the release of Kung Fu Panda 3 and explain the benefits and ease of working with Wix’s do-it-yourself website builder.
Wix and DreamWorks make for an exciting duo! Wix’s rookie 2015 Super Bowl campaign was extremely well-executed; their #ItsThatEasy ad featured 5 NFL legends who had each decided to start their own new business with the help of the web building platform.
For their part, DreamWorks has been entertaining families around the world for decades, with classic films like Shrek, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, Monsters vs. Aliens and The Croods.
What can we expect from this dynamic duo in Super Bowl 50?
We don’t know specifics about the ad yet, but our expectations are sky-high. While this is their first Super Bowl commercial, DreamWorks has previously teamed up with other brands to produce some hilarious, poignant and memorable marketing campaigns. This 2008 ad for Comcast featured all our favorite characters from Madagascar enjoying HDTV deep in the depths of an African jungle. It was released in advance of the release of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
Just this year, Ikea tapped into the genuises at DreamWorks Animation to produce a series of 25 short films to promote their new LATTJO collection. The campaign will include several 2D and stop motion animation movies. According to Ikea, the LATTJO line includes a variety of toys and games and is “all about inspiring young and old to play together, all the time, everywhere. It doesn’t matter if you’re 7 or 97, LATTJO is for everyone.” Given the emphasis on play, it looks like DreamWorks is just the right match for their marketing campaign.
What do you do when your Happy Meal floats away on an iceberg? Call your friends – the characters from Ice Age. This DreamWorks Mickey D collaboration was released in 2012 to build hype for the release of Ice Age, and of course, for Happy Meals.
Cruises are always more fun when you can play with Shrek and Fiona in the pool. This 2011 ad promoted Royal Caribbean and reminded us how cool the little green ogre is.
DreamWorks released Home in March 2015 and around the same time Kimbrell’s asked the friendly, animated Home stars to help them flaunt their Big Sale on dinettes, living room sets and more.

Back in 2010, our favorite friends from Madagascar got a sneak peak at the Intel Core i5 – by trying to steal it! Granted, their covert mission may have sent them to jail, but it was enough to build curiosity about Intel’s latest processor.
